AdviSex – Improving sexual health via the Living Lab approach

AdviSex is a CHEST Call 3 winning project from Mario Barile (of beMINT). It proposes the use of the Living Lab methodology – focused on user-centred open innovation – to co-create a service focused on sexual health, including access to related knowledge. In particular, the AdviSex web responsive application aims to support the improvement of sexual health for adults, both as individuals and as couples. By taking into account age, gender and sexual orientation of the user, the application will provide personalised recommendations to users. This way, sexual health becomes tailor made. Furthermore, AdviSex will allow users to connect with sexual health specialists via chat, video chat or sending a single message in a secure and private way.

During the first 6 months of the project, the AdviSex team have completed co-design of the entire prototype through the Living Lab approach, including technical architecture definition, user experience design and development of the first features.

AdviSex has been certified as a Class 1 medical device (according to the EU Directive 93/42 on Medical Devices).

In addition to the technical development, a collaboration has been started with Federazione Italiana Sessuologia Scientifica (Italian Federation of Scientific Sexology) to produce specialised and innovative contents on sexual health. Furthermore, interest has been generated from across the globe by presenting AdviSex at many events, including most recently BIAT 2016 (an Italian event aimed at promoting commercialization and transfer of innovative products and services by matching commercial and technology supply and demand between start-ups, innovative SMEs, business networks, universities, technology parks and foreign counterparts). AdviSex was also one of the five startup projects presented during the first Italian Forum focused on digital health, called “s@lute”, in September 2015.
